Instructions: WASD or Direction Keys to move. Tons of interact-ables with optional dialogue if you like! If it looks colorful or interact-able it probably is!

A reflection on my life and dreams from the last 2 years. A personal project that took 2 years and a lot of life getting in the way to complete. During that time, I had almost no time for things like making games. This project is a hybrid between pixel landscapes and scenes I made back in the spring of 2019, and dialogue I wrote in the fall of 2020. Please explore, listen, and if you enjoy ramblings and reflection, you might have a good time.

A late entry into the Essay Bitsy Jam!

Quick Shout-out to Onion who allowed me to add them in as a tiny reference - thanks for all your help / support with the main game coding back in 2019!

This project was made using a vaguely remembered combination of Bitsy 5.3, several Borksy hacks (mostly for colors, exit from dialogue, and some other things I can't quite remember) and BitsyMuse for music functionality.

I built all the sprites / art in Aseprite then transferred them over by hand. There is probably an easier way, but I didn't know it at the time!

Music from the ever excellent Kevin MacLeod. The track is a slightly edited version of Windswept from the album Calming, changed to loop more smoothly. Info about the track below! (This track is from freemusicarchive.org and is licensed for free and open access use.)

Edit: fixed a bug with the final door dialogue. Thanks Sumaleth!

I love this game a lot and I really enjoyed playing it. I'm not very good at expressing myself through words, especially in english but I wanted to say thank you, for making such a beautiful game. I hope you're in a better place now, and that your wish will come true. I'm sure it'll be fulfilled soon ! Safe spaces and kind people do exist ! :)

Thank you so much for your kind comments! Your English is great, and I appreciate your well wishes. I am also glad that you enjoyed sharing in my reflection!

Wonderful work.  I was one of those English Ed students who was lucky enough to panic-switch majors far too late into school.  I was so afraid of teaching permanently forcing me in the closet and making my anxiety explode.

Needless to say, my experience is different from yours, but with that bit of overlap and the fact that I'm staring into uncertainty myself...this is a comfort.  I'm glad you're doing better, and I hope you continue to move forward and get closer to the life you deserve.

Thank you for sharing! I have many friends who chose the same as you and ultimately left the education path. I certainly can relate - I might have done the same if it had been an option. I'm glad you enjoyed my musings and found comfort in it too. Thanks again so much for your kind words! :)

My face glued to the screen in the first room and I was in your shoes for all the game. You’re game really brought me to a magical place for some minutes. Thank you for sharing your story!

You think you’ve seen quite a few types of bitsy and then… yours occurs ! I really can’t think you could do some game like that with that engine, it’s fabulous, and the message is wholesome, and I hope your dream will come true… and thank you !

Thank you so much! This project was so difficult to put together. Some tiles have upwards of 5-7 "Permanent" items stacked on the same spot to achieve the full color effect. Quick shout-out to Borksy Hacks for Bitsy, in particular the See-through and Permanent Items hacks!

Thanks for answering my unspoken question about how you did such intricate coloring, you ‘teachered’ nice on this one ;)

Oh this is so gorgeous!! The colours!! The tiny details!! and the idea of teetering above an uncertain future really resonated with me.... i too  desperately want to just park my broomstick by a queer bar and hang out with my friends!! thank u for making this!

Thank you for your comments! I am glad that you connected with this project. I honestly feel so happy I managed to finish it. Knowing that it resonated with players is even better!
